Whirlpool’s innovation incubator WLabs to launch its third revolutionary product – Zera™ Food Recycler that converts food waste into ready-to-use, homemade fertilizer, helping families reduce food and landfill waste while enhancing their own garden and lawn.

Brett Dibkey, VP of Integrated Business Units at Whirlpool Corporation, commented, “Zera™ is one of the first products from our global innovation lab — WLabs of Whirlpool Corporation–which fast-tracks products to market that address previously unsolved and real consumer needs.”

“Zera™ system ensures that food waste can be converted into a homemade fertilizer, as opposed to being disposed into a landfill. We’re thrilled to be introducing this latest offering for home kitchens, which delivers on Whirlpool Corporation’s promise of purposeful innovation,” added Dibkey.

With the help of Zera™ Food Recycler, families will be able to recycle food year-round. Designed to seamlessly fit into consumer’s kitchen, Zera™ Food Recycler can be controlled via the Zera™ mobile app. As it is described further on the company’s website, “Zera™ system utilizes oxygen, moisture, heat, a plant-based additive, and an agitator to expedite decomposition of food scraps, reducing its volume by two-thirds within 24 hours.”

Whirlpool mentions that it plans to create a crowdfunding campaign in partnership with Indiegogo to support the launch of its new product. The campaign is expected to go live on January 6, 2017. Zera™ Food Recycler will also be unveiled at CES 2017.
